SpunkVideo welcomes you to the new home of the Christopher Rage Collection. It's been a long, strange and difficult journey.
 The films of Christopher Rage, who was a pioneer in gay porn, run the gamut from weird to mind-blowing. Rage
worked in New York in the 1980s and 90s, and was among the first, if not the first, gay pornographer to use video
rather than film. Rage described using video in porn like the live taping of television programs in front of a studio audience.
He brought a sense of excitement and immediacy to the small screen, claiming "I've seen the work of most of my peers
and I'd like to think I've stolen only the best ideas. I hope I've gotten better at getting people to be
themselves on-camera."
Rage appeared in an Arch Brown movie in 1971, and started making videos in 1981. He was, in the truest sense,
a creator of the medium, and yet at the same time, profoundly influenced by the medium. "I've worked in videos,
in still photography, in live sex shows. I've been exposed to more people's sexuality than most people. I've
gotten hundreds of letters from people describing their desires and fantasies, and even casual acquaintances
are apt to describe intimate details of their sex lives. One can't see and hear all that without being changed
by it."
 We are pleased to present, for the first time in a decade, the Christopher Rage Collection. We have begun to
painstakingly digitally restore and remaster the Collection, and offer here the first of what will be a compendium
of Rage's work. Over the years, there have been ineteresting deals made and rights granted, rescinded and transferred
for many of Rage's films. Some have been lost forever to the ravages of time, dust and air on videotape. Most survived,
due in large part to the care taken by those involved with and around him -- Jack Stone, Frank Ross, and many, many
others.
 For some, this will be a stroll down memory lane. For most, these are new, fresh and a glimpse of what the
sexual underground in Manhattan was throughout the 80's -- a time when gay sexuality was under attack from the
right wing. As Rage put it, it was an opportune time to strike out: "Historically, the more repression, the
greater the success of pornography. People always want what they're told they can't have. If it weren't for
the uptight assholes repressing other people's sexuality, most of this wouldn't be exciting to anyone."
